Miodrag Mića Popović (Loznica, 1923 – Belgrade, 1996)
Miodrag Mića Popović, in 1946 enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade, in the class of professor Ivan Tabakovic. He was one of the members of the Zadar group. Upon returning to Belgrade, only Mića Popović didn’t succeed at returning to the academy. He continued his studies alone, with the help of professor Tabaković. From 1940 he exhibits on numerous collective exhibitions at home and abroad. He also published art critics and essays. In the sixties he made several films, for which he also wrote the scripts. He was chosen as an associate member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 1978 and became a regular member in 1985. From 1987 he was an associate member of the Art Academy in Berlin. He is the winner of numerous awards, with outstanding ones: the award for painting at the second October salon in 1961, the Artists’ Association of Serbia’s Golden palette award in 1969, he was awarded the Politika award from the Vladislav Ribnikar Foundation in 1971 and he received it in 1989. The Mića Popović award is awarded in the fields he himself was involved in – painting, literature, theater and film. It is given every second year.
