Peter Lubarda (1907 – 1974) is one of the greatest figures of Yugoslav art of the twentieth century. In the middle of this century, he had the role of a reformer of Yugoslav painting, which in the beginning of the century had Nadezda Petrovic.
Lubarda was born in Ljubotinj, Montenegro. xHe held his first solo exhibition nn Niksic, Montenegro in 1925, as a student of grammar school. The same year entered the School of Arts in Belgrade, but soon moved to Paris at the School of Fine Arts. He worked as a professor at the Art Academy in Belgrade from 1945.
His 1951 exhibition at the gallery ULUS is the official date of art history which marks the introduction into consideration the aesthetics of modernity and a break with the traditional. Lubarda is certainly one of the most important figures that transcends national boundaries and is successfully implemented on the international art scene.
Lubarda was the winner of the world’s most prestigious awards. He became a full member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences in 1961.
