In the past two decades, the ARTE Gallery has had an extremely successful and productive cooperation with Vladimir Veličković. A review of the exhibition of graphic prints from 2015, when a small part of the graphic opus was presented to the public, enabled better positioning of graphics in this area. The sublimation of the presentation of Veličković’s entire work was realized at the extensive retrospective exhibition “Homage to Vladimir Veličković” in 2020, when we presented his works in two gallery spaces. Now, two years after his death, we present a selection from the graphic opus of a world-class artist who, in his decades-long fruitful artistic career, has achieved to express himself through various creative media. Among the 30 graphics that will be shown at this year’s exhibition, a special place is occupied by a series of 16 graphics that represent illustrations for the 2003 edition of the book Les Noyers de L’Altenburg (Altenburg Walnuts) by French author André Malraux.

“Vladimir Veličković’s work emphasizes compactness, fidelity to the thematic framework, the artist’s ability to be a chronicler of time, a warner, but also a cruel realist who is uncompromisingly engaged in both fields, artistic and social, overcoming barriers.”

Drago Rakočević, art historian
