Radomir Reljić (1938 – 2006)
Radomir Reljić was a distinguished Serbian painter, professor and a member of Serbian Academy of Science and Arts. He graduated at Belgrade Academy of Fine Arts in 1961. in a class of professor Zoran Petrović. He finished his specialization in 1963. with professors Zora Petrović and Milo Milunović.
In a year 1972. he became an assistant at Belgrade Academy of Arts, and from 1988. he was a full time professor at the same institution. He won several most important national art awards. Reljić was a true individualist, one of the members od SASA who has publicly spoke against the war and the regime in 90s. In the early 60s he was a member of Belgrade pop-art, which marked the beginning of the Belgrade postmodern art, presenting a critique of the current state of art, society and politics. Characterized by a particular irony, as well as resistance to the psychological and moral crisis of man and the modern world, Reljić spoked about his work and about New Figuration movement as about “cruelty painting”. He was also an illustrator and book, set design for theater and film.
